Gastroscopy involves the passage of a thin flexible tube through the stomach via the mouth, allowing the inspection of the oesophagus (gullet), stomach and duodenum (small intestine) and for biopsies and other therapeutic procedures to be performed. The test is performed under sedation, and most patients have no recall of the procedure at all.
